Joint Statement: call to uphold human rights in the Samos Closed Controlled Access Centre

RLS is one of 20 civil society organisations to have joined together to denounce inhumane and degrading living conditions in the Samos refugee camp - known as the Closed Controlled Access Centre (CCAC).

In the Samos CCAC:

• People are forced to sleep in spaces such as kitchens and classrooms, without beds or mattresses

• Newly arrived people are de facto detained

• People have insufficient and inconsistent access to medical care

• Daily water needs are not met

We call on the Greek authorities and the EU Commission to take immediate action to rectify these problems and uphold the most basic human rights.
